APPLE | BRAND IDENTITY, DESIGN & STRATEGY

A living identity and design system.

CHALLENGE

How do you create a distinct identity for an organization that already exists within one of the world's most recognizable brands? Services Technology—the IS&T organization responsible for designing, building, and operating the platforms, tools, and systems behind Apple's services—had recently undergone a major reorganization. While the team's responsibilities had evolved, its story had not. Leaders lacked a shared understanding of who the organization was, what it stood for, and how to communicate its value consistently across the business. Before a visual identity could be developed, the organization needed a clear narrative foundation that aligned leadership, established credibility, and created a common language for internal communication.

APPROACH

I approached the project as a brand strategy initiative before a design exercise. To uncover alignment gaps and define the organization's identity, I conducted baseline interviews and surveys with cross-functional leaders to understand existing perceptions, challenges, and opportunities.

Using these insights, I developed the narrative architecture that established the team's purpose, positioning, messaging, and communication framework. From there, I created a scalable internal brand system that included:

  • A foundational narrative and messaging framework

  • A communications survey designed to measure visibility, alignment, collaboration, and internal engagement over time

  • A digital brand style guide and resource hub built in Claude AI to support adoption and consistency

  • The strategic foundation for a future visual identity system

Although the visual identity was ultimately not launched due to organizational leadership decisions, the work established the strategic framework necessary for the department to communicate with greater clarity, consistency, and alignment.

Communications Strategy

Rather than treating communications as a one-time initiative, I developed a strategic framework to measure and strengthen organizational alignment over time. The work began with a baseline pulse survey designed to establish benchmarks across leadership and teams, creating a repeatable way to evaluate visibility, collaboration, communication, and alignment as the organization evolved.

To support adoption, I also created a standardized team introduction framework that gave every team a consistent way to communicate their purpose, responsibilities, partnerships, and ways of working. Successful implementation depended on cross-functional participation and leadership engagement, transforming individual contributions into a scalable system for organizational clarity. While the broader communications strategy was not fully realized, the foundational work established a roadmap for measuring progress and fostering stronger alignment across the organization.

design systems & communications

Working alongside Strategy & Operations, I transformed complex technical initiatives into clear, visually compelling narratives for leadership and cross-functional stakeholders. From concept through execution, I designed Keynote presentations that balanced storytelling, information hierarchy, motion, and Apple's design principles to communicate strategy with clarity and impact.

Beyond presentations, I modernized legacy assets—including training guides, documentation, submission forms, email communications, and presentation templates—into a cohesive system aligned with Apple's design standards. By creating scalable templates and reusable patterns, I helped establish a more consistent visual language while improving efficiency across internal communications.
